The Diagonal is situated at an interesting location on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a city known for skyscrapers. Adjacent to Lincoln Center, Central Park, and with a Broadway address the Diagonal takes those elements and works with them, adding to the surrounding neighborhood. The Diagonal Atrium/Public spaces in the building are reminiscent of Broadway's free diagonal against the structured grid. The spaces in the skyscraper are for students, workers, residences, and visitors. The design of the skyscraper takes many cues from the Island of Manhattan
